There was only one talking point in France on Friday and it wasn't Switzerland's striking options. But never fear, football is back and so is Commissioner of Football Eric Cantona.

SATURDAY MORNING’S BIG STORIES

1-Big talk from Bale ahead of Wales-Northern Ireland
Gareth Bale has been pleasingly gobby at Euro 2016. His claim that Wales have more passion than England backfired, but he has come roaring back by saying his team are bidding to win the whole shooting match.
"Obviously you come to the tournament for one reason - to win, not to play three games and go home,"
The ultimate goal is we want to try and win the tournament
This is a team that Eurosport’s Ben Snowball bet on at 1000/1 – but honestly why shouldn’t they believe it?
Wales are favoured against Northern Ireland, then potentially face Belgium and then Croatia en route to the final.
2-Collina weighs in on goalkeeper penalty row
UEFA’s chief refereeing officer Pierluigi Collina has said Croatia goalkeeper Daniel Subasic should have been booked for coming off his line early in saving a Sergio Ramos penalty against Spain.
Collina took the unusual step of publicly admonishing Dutch referee Bjorn Kuipers and his assistants.
"The keeper moved forward. It was not spotted by the referee’s team. It was a mistake. Unfortunately it happens but it was a mistake within a match that was refereed well."

SATURDAY’S MATCHES

Oh, football, don’t ever leave us again. You take two days off and the world turns upside down. This one might not seem like a plum tie but both sides have quietly impressed so far, especially at the back. If Robert Lewandowski has used the Euro 2016 hiatus to drive back to Munich for his shooting boots, Poland could just edge this.
Well, of course, it’s the European Championship knockout tie everyone expected – rechristened the Brexit derby. Wales will have the two best players on the pitch in Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey, but need better from Ashley Williams. Northern Ireland’s progress has been a joy; their football less so. But there should be a tumultuous atmosphere at the Parc des Princes.
Croatia were the best team in the group stage when not distracted by their own fans chucking flares onto the pitch. But their brilliant win over Spain actually presents a problem – having made five changes for that game, how many players does Ante Cacic restore? Luka Modric obviously – but beyond that? Portugal are tetchy and winless – but neither have they lost a game yet.

ON THE GROUND

Alex Chick, Paris - Travelling to France just hours after the EU referendum result felt a bit like one’s own personal Truman Show. Everywhere you went, people wanted to talk about Brexit as soon as they knew you were British – on the plane, at the hotel and in public.
The French attitude was not so much outrage as curiosity. Why had the British done this? What was the country thinking? Brexit was all over the TV (the Euros didn’t stand a chance) and it’s not every day you overhear a French passer-by bark into a phone: “What, the told them they were starting talks with Turkey this month?”

SHARING IS CARING: TODAY’S VIRAL GEMS

Want to hear Eric Cantona deliver his Brexit verdict and sing ‘Will Grigg’s On Fire’ at the top of his considerable lungs?
Thought you might – enjoy.
Jermaine Pennant: was he joking? You decide.
