Petr Cech: Arsenal will challenge for all trophies

The 33-year-old goalkeeper joined from Premier League champions Chelsea after losing his first-team place to Thibaut Courtois last season.

Cech told Sky Sports: “I wanted to choose the best option for myself in a football way and Arsenal showed me that they really wanted me to join. I spoke to Arsene Wenger and he presented a project that I really believe I want to be part of.

“Obviously it is a new challenge for me. The football reason is the main reason why I choose to join, because I believe the Premier League is the best league in the world and once I got the offer from the Premier League and from the team that will challenge for the titles and that will try to improve in the Champions League and will try to win everything, this matches my personal motivation.”

Cech also believes Arsenal are on an upward curve and can build on their FA Cup victories over the past two seasons.

“Having won two FA Cups, it’s a first step and it clearly shows that the team has the potential to win trophies,” added Cech. “Last season the run that Arsenal had in the Premier League was absolutely brilliant since the start of the New Year.

"Obviously the start of the season was difficult for them and that’s why in the end they missed a little bit to challenge for the title. But they showed a lot of promise and I believe the team have the potential to challenge for the top places with all the teams like Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool.”
