Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has stopped training with Manchester United – seemingly ending any chance of him joining the Premier League side.
Valdes’ contract expired at Barcelona in the summer, prompting United to invite the 32-year-old to complete his rehabilitation from an anterior cruciate ligament injury at Old Trafford.
United manager Louis van Gaal expressed interest in signing the Spanish international as back up to David de Gea, saying at the time: “Manchester United always has their eyes open”.
But a deal now looks unlikely after Valdes left United on Friday.
He was linked with a host of clubs over the summer, with Liverpool now expected to lead the chase for his signature as current Anfield number one Simon Mignolet struggles for form.
