Chelsea have signed Remy as a replacement for Fernando Torres, who joined AC Milan on a two-year loan deal on Friday, but faced competition from Arsenal, who emerged as contenders for Remy’s signature after Olivier Giroud was ruled out until the New Year with a broken tibia.
Despite the injury to Giroud, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger elected against firming up their interest in the former Marseille man, and, thus left the path clear for Chelsea to seal a deal for the forward.
QPR confirmed the deal on Sunday afternoon via their Twitter account after Chelsea met the £10.5 million release clause in the 27-year-old's contract.
Remy becomes Chelsea's sixth major signing of the summer following the captures of Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa, Mario Pasalic, Filipe Luis and Didier Drogba.
Of his move, Remy said: "I feel very happy and very proud. When I heard Chelsea wanted to sign me I said 'let's go' straight away because they are one of the best clubs in the world.
"I remember the amazing atmosphere at Stamford Bridge when I played there for Marseille and I can't wait to play for the first time in front of my new fans."
