Schumacher's wife releases touching letter to fans

In the letter to fans, Corinna wrote on behalf of the Schumacher family of the support they have all received during the dark days following the Formula One legend’s tragic skiing accident last December.

In particular, she touched upon on the struggles the family went through in the subsequent months that Schumacher lay in a coma, but insisted that the hardest times were now over.

"The German Grand Prix gives me the perfect opportunity to cordially thank you all for the good wishes and positive energies you keep sending to Michael," read a translation of the original letter, which was in German.

"I have to say your sympathies blew us all away.

“It is good to know that together we made it through the hardest time.

"Now we are facing a phase which will presumably take a long time.

“We trust that - as for so many years in F1 - time will be Michael's ally in the fight."

Upon waking from an induced coma last month, the 45-year-old was moved to the Lausanne University Hospital near his family home in Switzerland.

Prior to that, Schumacher was treated at Grenoble University Hospital Centre in France following the skiing accident in France, which left him with severe head injuries.

Schumacher won seven World Championship titles, making him F1’s most successful driver, competing at the top of the sport from 1991 through to 1996 and from 2010 to 2012.
